Adding or Renovating with Energy Efficiency

To meet the Energy Standards requirements for Additions and Alterations, homeowners and builders must plan for and incorporate appropriate energy efficient technologies. The key to complying with the Standards is to do the planning for an addition or alteration before ground is broken, equipment is purchased, or the home is disturbed.

2008 Water Heating Changes

There are a number of significant changes to requirements for water heaters in the 2008 Title 24 Building Energy Efficiency Standards. As Rob Huddler explains, most of the changes govern distribution systems for water heating systems. Examples of changes for nonresidential buildings include check valves for backflow prevention as well as air release and drain valves to prevent cavitation. In residential buildings, changes to reduce energy loss govern below-grade piping, recirculation systems for tankless water heaters, distribution multipliers for standard water heaters and others.
