Welcome to the State of California

Renewable Energy

California's climate zones lend themselves well to use of renewable energy sources - particularly solar and wind energy. The State of California has had a long history of support for renewable energy, recognizing its potential for supplementing traditional sources. In fact, the California Energy Commission has offered consumer rebates in the past for those installing new renewable energy systems. In 2008, nearly 11% of all electricity came from renewable resources such as wind, solar, geothermal, biomass and others. This module contains information about the two most common types of renewable energy used in California – photovoltaic (solar) and wind power.
